My dog Guinness is, of course, the inspiration for Guinness Grass!

He’s a lovable rescue dog with a huge personality who survived a mast cell tumor at three and two more surgeries since then. Because of the immense joy he brings, I try to give him the very best. He eats raw dog food (with a topper, of course), enjoys my homemade sourdough discard dog cookies, and he loves to hike. Kuliouou Ridge is his favorite.

But like most condo dogs, Guinness still needs a convenient place to use the bathroom throughout the day. For a small 18-pound dog, he somehow manages to go a lot. Even with two daily walks, it can be a challenge when working a full-time job.

For years, I used an artificial turf system. It worked, but the setup involved several bulky plastic pieces that had to be washed regularly in the shower. Cleaning meant hauling everything inside, scrubbing with enzyme cleaners, and then bleaching the shower afterward. Even with all that effort, the turf still seemed to hold on to the odor. Guinness also sometimes missed because of the height of the pet toilet. In addition, the urine on the turf attracted flies if not cleaned regularly. It was gross.

Fed up with poor results and the amount of labor involved, I tried fresh grass instead experimented using multiple odor-absorbing mediums. Everything changed. I noticed better absorption and less smells. And this eliminated the constant cycle of washing the turf and a plastic pet system in the shower.

That discovery resulted in Guinness Grass. This system has changed our lives, and we hope it helps make life with your dog a little easier, too.​
